COMMENTARY

Progress 8 gap is significant. However there are three pupils in the progress 8 cohort who all receive a significantly negative score in our data as they have been on alternative provision (at risk of permanent exclusion). All will attain qualifications but these are not in our figures without these pupils progress 8 would be adjust significantly: factoring out a pupil who was placed on study leave instead of permanent exclusion and a pupil who has, due to high anxiety levels , not attended school and the P8 scores would be -0.3. Hence small numbers are having a large ‘pull’ effect.

The EM gap is 30.9% which again is distorted by those not presenting with data. Maths progress is weak but points score difference has improved significantly  to -4.36 which is less than a grade. English points score difference is equally improving at -0.64 less than a third of a grade difference. This is supported by the English & Maths figure of 46% which suggests reasonable basic skills development and is above the national average.

Progress 8 will not be comparable between these years.

Good news:

  • FSM6 have improved in all areas of measure.

  • APS Closing in English and Maths

  • Basics increasing

  • Absence figures markedly improved

  • Fixed term figures markedly improved

  • Impact of attendance officer = good

  • Impact of literacy and numeracy = good

Be cautious as there is a much more profound story of inclusion behind these figures.
